Global Bird Weekend 2021 hit a new record of participation!

What an event!

As we celebrate our own birdwatching ventures during Global Bird Weekend, we wish to take this time to express the biggest congratulations to the rest of the participants. Everyone who took part made sure that this will be a year to remember. This event was held in support of Birdlife International to raise funds to protect and care for coastal wetlands for migratory species. By choosing the team you wish to support or by donating, you are showing your consideration for these birds that need our help.

So, what happened this Bird Weekend?

Weekend totals were at an all time high when compared to last year. This year, over 195 countries have taken part in the event. 33,670 total participants have all gathered to submit observations and support conservation on a worldwide scale. This is a great result when you consider that COVID-19 continues to affect the globe and our communities. People have had to put their safety first, follow guidelines, and ensure they watched respectfully. Despite this, people have rallyed to make this the biggest global bird weekend yet! This being the second-ever Global Bird Weekend shows positivity for the future ahead.

What about sightseeing at Global Bird Weekend?

The weekend was packed with constant and riveting birdwatching. This October Big Day was especially amazing as 7269 species were seen in just 1 day! The total species seen over 3 days throughout the Global Bird Weekend was 7670. This is a huge accomplishment and could not have been done without the togetherness seen during the weekend. The birding community is strong and inspires communities around the world even in these difficult times. This year’s October Big Day was occurring at the same time as World Migratory Bird Day and was a fantastic time to observe migratory bird species also.
